MTN may appoint Ugonwa Nwoye new CMO

Sequel to the sudden resignation of the former Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), Adia Sowho from the telecommunication giant, we learnt that the current Chief Customer and Experience Officer (CCXO) of MTN Nigeria, Ugonwa Nwoye may be in line to take over as acting CMO pending the recruitment of the substantive CMO.

The Industry Newspaper learnt the management of MTN has been meeting since last week to find a solution to the issue particularly as the MTN imc business would be moving to new agencies in new year- January 2025.

This development, according to a reliable source who spoke to our reporter, has created panic with the ranks of MTN Nigeria because the reason behind Sowho’s resignation still remained sketchy. Another source said that her resignation may not be unconnected with the current probe allegedly involving key marketing executives.

Nwoye, a well-rounded professional of renowned pedigree has been responsible for the strategy, design, and execution of customer operations at MTN Nigeria, managing contacting, service, upsell, and support experiences for all customer segments. She also oversees the development and implementation of customer analytics, support tools, and omnichannel customer care processes.

With over 25 years of experience in telecommunications, management consulting, and oil and gas, Nwoye is a seasoned management professional. She has spearheaded innovative strategies and transformative customer operations initiatives for one of Africa’s largest telecommunications firms.

Previously, as the head of innovation and product development at MTN Nigeria, Nwoye defined and delivered product roadmaps for key consumer segments, driving revenue growth, business expansion, and solidifying the company’s position as a market leader in innovation.

Ugonwa Nwoye serves on the board of Content Connect International, a company specializing in new media, content, and entertainment. Additionally, she mentors young professionals in a personal capacity. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Nigeria and an MBA from Harvard Business School.  She is also an alumnus of the Stanford University Graduate School of Business where she bagged a certification in Marketing.
