Private Sector Health Alliance of Nigeria (PSHAN) in collaboration with the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation celebrated the successful renovation and handing over of four Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) in Edo state. The newly improved centres—Atoruru PHC in Owan West, Ute PHC in Ikpoba Okha, Evbuodia PHC in Oredo, and Idunmungha PHC in Uhunmwode—delivered as a part of the Adopt-a-Healthcare Facility Programme (ADHFP), are now fully equipped and ready to provide improved healthcare services to their communities.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Friday, September 13, 2024, in Atohuru PHC in Owan West LGA, Edo State to mark the occasion. Key stakeholders and community leaders, including Rt Hon Blessing Agbebaku, Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly; Dr. Omosigho Izedonmwen, Executive Secretary, Edo State PHCDA; Hon. Ahonsi Dickson, Chairman, Owan West LGA; Prof. Emeritus Oje Aisiku, Arah of Evbiobe Chiefs; The Lord Bishop of Sabongida Ora Diocese, Rt Revd Augustine Ohilebo; and other distinguished guests, were in attendance to celebrate this significant milestone. The event marked a substantial advancement in PSHAN and the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation’s collaborative efforts to strengthen the resilience and accessibility of the healthcare system in Edo state.
Speaking at the ribbon-cutting event, Mrs. Ofovwe Aig-Imoukhuede, Co-Founder and Executive Vice Chair of the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation stated, “A healthy population is the cornerstone of sustainable development, and the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation is committed to bridging the healthcare gap in Nigeria by revitalizing Primary Healthcare Centres in underserved communities. The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the renovated PHCs in Edo State marks a significant step toward our vision of a healthier, more equitable future for all Nigerians.”
Dr. Tinuola Akinbolagbe, MD/CEO of PSHAN, noted, “The transformation of healthcare through ADHFP is already in motion. Across the country, we have seen significant results. For example, in our pilot PHC facilities, we have seen significant increases in outpatient attendance, maternal care registrations, and immunizations. In 2023 alone, our pilot facilities saw a 91% increase in outpatient attendance and an 832% growth in antenatal care registrations. Through the ADHFP initiative, we aim to make a tangible difference in the lives of people in underserved communities transforming healthcare delivery throughout the country.”
The ribbon-cutting ceremony comes after the partnership between the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation and PSHAN was formalised with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between both organisations. The event marks the first phase of the Foundation’s multimillion naira commitment to renovating 23 Primary Healthcare Centres across Nigeria under the Adopt-A-Healthcare-Facility Programme (ADHFP).
The collaboration is part of a broader strategy aimed at accelerating improvements in health outcomes, not just in Edo State but across the entire nation. With these newly built PHCs, Edo State is now better equipped to meet the healthcare needs of its citizens, contributing to the overall goal of achieving universal health coverage in Nigeria.
