In a new twist that will begin a new legal battle between the regulator, Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) and one of the key sectoral group members, Advertisers Association of Nigeria, (ADVAN) over the new advertising law enacted by the national assemblies in 2023, ADVAN has withdrawn the old charges and filed a new action at the regulatory agency.
This was contained in a terse press statement sent to The Industry by the CEO/executive director of ADVAN, Ediri Ose-Ediale today via WhatsApp.
It would be recalled that ADVAN had approached the Federal High Court, Lagos for interpretation of the new advertising law in 2023 and ARCON was listed as the first respondent.
According to the chief executive officer/ executive director at ADVAN, Mrs. Ediri Ose-Ediale, who spoke to us this afternoon said, “We would like to give you an update on our legal actions against ARCON
“After consultations with our legal representatives and in light of very pertinent developments, ADVAN withdrew the initial case against ARCON, and have filed fresh actions against them,” she said.
She stated that “The new proceedings have been carefully reviewed to ensure prompt redress from all anomalies of the agency.
“We are resolute in advocating reasonable, global best standards in marketing and advertising regulations for advertisers and the industry as a whole. we will also continue to explore all options in seeking a lasting resolution to these issues,” she added.
