CNM Foundation hosts back-to-school programme for beneficiaries

The CNM Foundation has hosted a back-to-school programme for children under its care, bringing together beneficiaries, families, partners, associates and other stakeholders to prepare them for the new academic session.

The event, held on August 31 at The Dome in Lekki, Lagos, featured motivational sessions, eye-care education, the presentation of school supplies and cash awards for children who recorded outstanding academic performance.

Desmond Omorugbe delivered a motivational talk, while Dr. Chioma Confidence Okafor educated the children on the importance of maintaining good eye health to support effective learning.

The foundation also recognised three outstanding beneficiaries for their academic excellence. Mbuk Tudor Idoncesit received a N300,000 award, Ekwulonu Jidenna received N200,000, while Onyegbula Diamond Chimananda received N100,000.

Speaking at the event, the founder of the CNM Foundation, Nkiruka Cynthia Ajah, said the programme marked an important milestone in her eight-year journey of supporting children’s education and followed the formal establishment of the foundation earlier this year.

Ajah said she began supporting one child eight years ago before expanding the initiative to 10 beneficiaries. She explained that restructuring her business enabled her to establish the foundation as a more structured platform to extend educational support to children and families facing financial pressures.

According to her, the foundation focuses on supporting people within her immediate community who may not be unable to afford basic needs but often struggle to meet education expenses because of competing financial obligations.

She urged individuals with the means to support children’s education to do so, noting that investing in one child’s future could create a ripple effect across society.

“If you ever find yourself in the position to support someone who is trying to ensure their children go to school, please do it with all your heart,” she said.

Ajah said she previously supported beneficiaries by paying school fees directly to their schools but organised the back-to-school programme after formally establishing the foundation to bring the children together, encourage them ahead of the new school year and provide them with essential learning materials.

She added that the foundation partnered with Eagle Visions to conduct eye examinations for the children, stressing that good vision is essential for effective classroom learning and academic success.

Ajah described the initiative as her way of giving back to society by creating educational opportunities for children whose families need additional support. She said the true measure of impact lies not in the amount donated but in the lives transformed and opportunities created.

“The event is also a reminder to these children that people believe in their potential and are committed to supporting their dreams,” she said.

Also speaking, the Managing Director of Yebash Event, Mrs. Yejide Owootomo, commended Ajah for using the foundation to support children within her immediate community, including the families of people who work with her.

Owootomo said the initiative had eased the financial burden of school fees for several families and expressed confidence that the foundation would continue to expand its reach. She added that she hopes next year’s programme will support about 20 children, up from the current 10 beneficiaries.
