‎Coca-Cola reviews media account after Publicis’ PepsiCo win

The Coca-Cola Company is preparing to review its North America media account following Publicis Groupe’s appointment to handle global media duties for rival beverage giant PepsiCo, according to a report by Ad Age.

‎The development could trigger another major agency contest in the global advertising industry, barely a year after Publicis secured Coca-Cola’s North America media business from WPP.

‎Coca-Cola is reportedly holding discussions with WPP, Omnicom and dentsu as it considers its options. Brandspur Brand News understands that dentsu already works with the beverage company in Japan and Korea, giving the agency an existing relationship with the Coca-Cola business in parts of Asia.

‎The potential review follows PepsiCo’s decision to consolidate its global media responsibilities with Publicis. The arrangement places the agency in a significant position across the fiercely competitive beverage sector and appears to have prompted Coca-Cola to reassess its North American media partnership.

‎Publicis had also been competing against WPP for Coca-Cola’s broader global media, data and technology business. Its position in that process is now uncertain following the PepsiCo appointment.

‎A change would represent another major shift for Coca-Cola’s media operations after Publicis only took control of the North American account last year. Moving a business of that scale between agencies typically involves substantial operational coordination, making the outcome of the review particularly significant for the companies involved.

‎The development also raises the stakes for WPP, Omnicom and dentsu as major advertising groups continue competing for large multinational media accounts.

‎For Coca-Cola, the decision will ultimately determine which agency helps oversee media planning and investment in one of its most important markets, while the wider advertising industry watches how Publicis’ expanded relationship with PepsiCo reshapes its work across competing global beverage brands.
