The Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) launched a nationwide awareness campaign in Kano on Wednesday, highlighting the benefits of using credit to access essential goods and services.
The event at the Sani Abacha Stadium drew in members of the public, market communities, diverse trade associations, their leaders, and financial institutions.
Speaking at the occasion, CREDICORP’s Managing Director, Engr. Uzoma Nwagba, announced that the campaign will roll out across Nigeria’s states over the coming months to educate citizens on the importance of credit in building a better life.
He added, “Under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, CREDICORP is making it easier for working Nigerians to acquire essential items like vehicles, solar energy systems, and home renovations through instalment payments, rather than relying solely on cash.”
According to him, the awareness initiative, which is the third pillar of the corporation’s strategy, aims to reshape public perception of credit, encouraging people to see loans not as a trap, but as a tool for self-reliance and an improved standard of living.

He explained that CREDICORP collaborates with banks and faith-based lending institutions to facilitate access to credit.
“Through its mandate, the Corporation enables Nigerians to acquire essential goods and services – such as locally assembled vehicles, solar solutions, and home improvement products – on credit, rather than relying on limited cash-based transactions,” he said.
Nwagba emphasized that the event brings financial institutions on board while promoting a shift from traditional collateral-heavy models to more inclusive credit assessment methods that better reflect the realities of everyday Nigerians.
Echoing this commitment, Eco Bank’s Kano Regional Manager, Mustapha Muhammad, pledged the bank’s partnership with CREDICORP to drive the program’s success. Meanwhile, beneficiaries who spoke at the event praised the federal government and CREDICORP for launching the initiative.
