Dangote Refinery an industrial revolution, liberating Nigeria – C’tee on domestic crude oil sales

The Technical Committee of the One-Stop Shop (OSS) initiative has praised the $20 billion Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals as a symbol of industrial revolution driving Nigeria’s economic emancipation. During a tour of the facility, Mrs. Maureen Ogbonna, Coordinator of the OSS Technical Committee, described the refinery as a game-changer, impacting virtually every sector of the economy.

“This refinery is a breath of fresh air,” Ogbonna said. “It touches all our lives, from pharmaceuticals to construction, food to plastics. This project is transformational, and God has used the President of the Dangote Group to liberate Nigeria.”

The committee, which is committed to eliminating regulatory, operational, and logistical barriers hindering the smooth supply and sale of domestic crude oil and refined products in naira, is working in line with President Bola Tinubu’s vision of achieving full domestic sufficiency in petroleum products and positioning Nigeria as a major global exporter.

Ogbonna expressed awe at the scale and sophistication of the facility, particularly the laboratory, which she described as an institution. “It’s truly mind-blowing that one man could envision and execute such a project,” she said, urging Dangote to remain focused and undeterred by critics.

In response, Aliko Dangote thanked the technical committee for supporting the Naira-for-Crude initiative, which has led to a reduction in petroleum product prices, eased pressure on the dollar, and ensured the stability of the local currency. However, he noted that the refinery has increasingly relied on imports from the United States due to a shortage of domestic crude oil.

Dangote emphasized the importance of bold investment in strategic sectors for industrialization, highlighting the extensive infrastructure development that went into building the refinery, including a world-class marine facility. He assured the delegation of the refinery’s commitment to national development.

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals will process a wide range of crude types, meeting 100% of Nigeria’s domestic demand for petrol, diesel, kerosene, and aviation jet fuel, and generating a surplus for export.
