Hallos, an African EdTech and creator-economy platform, is introducing Morgan Coins, a reward-based learning initiative designed to make knowledge acquisition more engaging and rewarding for students and working professionals through daily interactive quiz games.
Through its reward currency, Morgan Coins, the platform is transforming everyday learning into an engaging and rewarding experience, allowing users to earn coins by participating in short quiz competitions covering Artificial Intelligence (AI), digital marketing, entrepreneurship and academic subjects.
Rather than relying solely on lengthy lectures and passive video content, Hallos encourages learners to build knowledge through five-question quiz rounds, peer competitions and consistent daily participation. The initiative is designed to make learning more accessible, engaging and rewarding while helping young Africans develop practical skills relevant to education, employment and entrepreneurship.
With a growing community of more than 3,000 learners and 100 creators, Hallos is expanding its reach across tertiary institutions in Nigeria, with plans to extend its operations to other African countries.
The Hallos model draws on established learning science, particularly the principle of retrieval practice, which shows that actively recalling information can improve long-term knowledge retention.
A widely cited 2008 study published in the journal *Science* by researchers Jeffrey Karpicke and Henry Roediger demonstrated the importance of repeated retrieval in strengthening long-term learning.
Hallos applies this principle through short, interactive quiz sessions that challenge learners to recall information, receive immediate feedback and improve their performance over time.
By introducing friendly competition among classmates and peers, the platform also makes learning more social and encourages consistent participation.

Its approach is inspired by Kaizen, the Japanese philosophy of continuous improvement through small, consistent efforts. The idea is that a few minutes of focused learning each day can gradually build stronger knowledge, confidence and problem-solving abilities.
How Morgan Coins work

Morgan Coins serve as the platform’s reward currency, creating incentives for learners to participate consistently and improve their knowledge.
Users earn coins by completing daily quiz rounds, maintaining learning streaks, participating in squad tournaments and winning inter-campus quiz competitions.
The coins can subsequently be used to access courses, examination preparation materials and masterclasses available on the platform.
These include Hallos’ eight Edge courses covering Personal Branding, AI Literacy, Agentic AI, Marketing, Public Speaking, Public Relations, Negotiation and Entrepreneurship.
Learners can also withdraw eligible Morgan Coins earned through gameplay using the Hallos wallet. However, coins purchased with money are restricted to learning-related activities and cannot be withdrawn, distinguishing participation-based rewards from purchased learning credits.
Beyond participating in quizzes, students can develop quiz packs from their course materials and earn Morgan Coins whenever other learners engage with their content. This feature encourages peer-to-peer knowledge sharing and creates opportunities for academically strong students to become content creators and learning facilitators.
Linking education with economic opportunities

The initiative also reflects Hallos’ broader ambition to connect education, employability and economic empowerment.
Morgan Coins takes its name from philanthropist Morgan Martinez, who has supported the Hallos vision from its inception.
The vision extends beyond helping young Africans acquire knowledge to creating opportunities for them to earn incomes through skills development and participation in the digital economy.
Hallos is building an ecosystem that creates employment opportunities for young people as tutors, campus ambassadors, quiz creators, instructors and community managers.
Speaking about her motivation to support the initiative, Madam Morgan said the platform gives young people a chance to turn learning into a pathway to economic empowerment.
“Hunger is not only about food; it is about opportunity. When a young person learns a skill that pays, a whole family eats better. I support Hallos because it rewards young people for learning every day and opens real doors to work. Morgan Coins are a small reward with a big purpose,” she said.
The platform believes equipping young people with relevant, marketable skills can improve livelihoods, increase economic participation, and support sustainable employment across the continent.
From Nigerian campuses to the African market

Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Hallos, Alexander Oseji, said the platform was developed to address the need for a more engaging and practical learning experience for Africa’s growing youth population.
“Africa’s young people don’t lack talent. What they lack is a learning system that fits the way they live. Morgan Coins turn five minutes on your phone into a habit that builds knowledge, confidence and income. We want every student on the continent to wake up wanting to play, learn and win,” Oseji said.
As part of its expansion strategy, Hallos is rolling out the Hallos Campus Quiz Cup across Nigerian tertiary institutions, using inter-campus competitions to promote participation, knowledge sharing and healthy academic rivalry.
The company plans to extend its operations to Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa and Burkina Faso as it pursues its ambition of building a pan-African learning community.
Hallos is also expanding access to global expertise by paying instructors worldwide through the Whop payments platform, enabling specialists from different parts of the world to deliver learning opportunities to African students and professionals.
