The Heads of Advertising Sectoral Groups (HASG) has stepped in to call for dialogue between the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) and the Advertisers Association of Nigeria (ADVAN) as their rift deepens.
HASG, led by Mr. Lanre Adisa, is facilitating consultative meetings between ADVAN and ARCON to resolve the ongoing crisis. The move follows ADVAN’s open letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, criticizing ARCON’s reforms and operations, including the Advertising Industry Standard of Practice (AISOP). ARCON has rejected ADVAN’s claims, accusing the association of spreading misinformation.
HASG supports the inauguration of the ARCON Council, arguing it will strengthen governance, enhance accountability, and ensure balanced oversight of the regulator’s activities. The umbrella body also maintains that the Advertising Industry Standard of Practice (AISOP) remains beneficial to the industry’s long-term health and sustainability.

“Regulation and growth are not mutually exclusive; they must coexist to ensure a stable, competitive and investment-friendly advertising environment,” HASG stated. The industry body calls on ADVAN to return to the HASG forum, emphasizing that the industry’s strength depends on the participation of all stakeholders.
HASG has pledged to engage both ARCON and ADVAN in separate consultative meetings to address concerns and work towards a sustainable resolution. The industry body stresses that the advertising sector plays a vital role in supporting enterprise, driving consumer engagement, generating employment, and projecting Nigeria’s image, and cannot afford to be weakened by division.
