Temu, the global e‑commerce platform, has responded to Nigeria’s data‑protection regulator’s probe by promising to safeguard users’ personal information and cooperate with authorities.
The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) announced it is investigating the platform for possible breaches of the Nigeria Data Protection Act, focusing on data collection, processing, storage, and cross‑border transfers.

Temu said, “At Temu, protecting user privacy and data security is a top priority. We are committed to complying with applicable laws and regulations in our data practices,” and added it will keep an open, constructive dialogue with the NDPC to address any concerns.
The commission warned that non‑compliant organisations could face enforcement actions, including penalties. Temu, which entered Nigeria in late 2024 and quickly attracted millions of users with low‑priced products and a mobile‑first model, now faces scrutiny over how it handles large volumes of consumer data.
