Nigerian Breweries cements top position in brewery sector in Nigeria

…Number 1 in Lager, Malt & Number 2 in Stout

Nigerian Breweries Plc, Nigeria’s foremost brewing company, cements its dominance as Nigeria’s brewing giant, holding the top spot in Lager and Malt categories and a strong second place in Stout.

Hans Essaadi, the managing director of Nigerian Breweries Plc, made this known while delivering his remarks at the 2024 Pre-Annual General Meeting media briefing held in Lagos on Thursday, April 3, 2025.

He noted that the company’s leadership now spans the entire beverage sector, thanks to the acquisition of Distel Wines and Spirits Nigeria, offering a wider range of brands to meet varied consumer tastes.

He further reiterated that the company’s strong financial performance in the 2024 financial year was driven mainly by its strong brand innovation, route to market, and distribution strategy.

“Essaadi said the company overcame challenges through cost-effective measures and innovation, posting a record N1.1 trillion revenue and 81% year-on-year growth. However, inflation and naira devaluation drove up costs, with Cost of Goods Sold rising 98% and Net Finance Costs increasing 34%, contributing to a 36% increase in Net Loss.”

Essaadi highlighted the company’s legacy of consistently delivering premium products that resonate with its vast customer base, and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a strong foothold in Nigeria, with a robust infrastructure comprising seven operational breweries, a melting plant, 21 depots, and 12 sales regions across the country

“In line with our strong company purpose and values-based culture, we would continue to brew the joy of true togetherness to inspire a better world by our values of passion for consumers and customers, courage to dream and pioneer and care for people and the planet”, he added.

The company has proactively demonstrated resilience in navigating the challenging operating environment, anchoring its operations on the powerful ‘Evergreen’ strategy that drives business sustainability

He declared that the company would continue to pioneer innovations in the different categories of beer and wine segment of the brewery industry to drive incremental growth.

In the financial year 2024, the company thrilled the market by repositioning several products, including the launch of Heineken lager in 45cl bottles, introducing Legend Extra Stout in drought format – a Nigerian first for a stout brand – and relaunching the iconic Star lager brand, among other exciting product offerings.
