Ride-hailing company Uber has announced that it is shutting down its operations in Nigeria, ending 12 years of service in the country’s mobility market.
The company said the decision took effect on September 2, 2026, following what it described as a thorough review of its business in Nigeria.

“We have taken the difficult decision to wind down our operations in Nigeria, effective September 2, 2026,” Uber said in a statement. The company thanked riders for using its platform since it launched in Lagos in 2014 and apologised for the disruption the exit may cause.
Uber said it will support drivers, riders and its local team members during the transition as it winds down operations in the country.
