WPP’s Chris Wade steps down, Michael Frohlich named successor

WPP’s Director of Communications and Corporate Affairs, Chris Wade, has stepped down from his role, as announced by the company’s outgoing CEO, Mark Read, in an internal email to staff.

Michael Frohlich, who currently serves as Global Chief Client Transformation Officer and EMEA CEO of The Weber Shandwick Collective, will succeed Wade.

In his farewell note, Chris Wade reflected on his 13-year tenure at WPP, saying, “I’ve decided it’s time for a change. As WPP prepares for its own transition, it feels like the right moment for me to pursue something new.”

Wade expressed pride in his team’s achievements, highlighting their successes in uniting adland to support the UN Development Goals, surviving the NotPetya cyber attack, and navigating CEO transitions.

Wade’s career spans multiple roles, starting as a Senior Press Officer at Trinity Mirror, where he later became Communications Manager. He then served as Head of Communications at Guardian Media Group and Group Director of Communications before joining WPP as Head of Communications for the EMEA region.

Wade eventually rose to Chief Communications Officer, a role he held until his departure.
