‎MTN delivers returns to investors while funding long term growth

MTN Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to rewarding shareholders without slowing investment in network expansion, highlighting a strategy that balances investor returns with long-term infrastructure development.

‎Following its half-year 2026 performance, the telecommunications company declared an interim dividend of ₦26 per share, signalling confidence in its financial outlook while maintaining one of the industry’s largest capital investment programmes.

‎For thousands of Nigerians who own MTN shares directly, and millions more whose pension funds are invested in the company, interim dividends represent a direct return on investment. At the same time, the company says it has continued to reinvest heavily in its operations, committing more than ₦1.6 trillion to network expansion since January 2025 to improve connectivity and support growing digital demand.

‎Speaking during an interview on Arise News’ Global Business Report, MTN Nigeria’s Chief Financial Officer, Modupe Kadri, said the company remains committed to maintaining its dividend policy while sustaining investment in future growth.

‎ “Our dividend policy allows us to return up to 80 per cent of retained earnings to shareholders. While we continue to reward investors, we are equally committed to investing in the infrastructure needed to support Nigeria’s growing digital economy,” he said.

‎Kadri added that the value created by the business extends beyond shareholder returns. Alongside dividend payments, the company contributes significantly through taxes, regulatory payments and infrastructure spending that support economic activity across its value chain. According to the company, these investments are intended to strengthen network capacity while creating long-term value for customers, investors and the broader economy.

‎As retail participation in Nigeria’s capital market continues to grow, companies that combine consistent shareholder returns with sustained investment are increasingly attracting investor attention. MTN says maintaining that balance will remain central to its strategy as it continues to expand digital connectivity and create long-term value for all stakeholders.
