The Chief Executive Officer of MultiChoice Nigeria, Kemi Omotosho, has announced a major restructuring of the company’s DStv and GOtv subscription packages, as part of a broader strategy to revitalise its subscriber offering and respond to changing viewing habits.
Speaking at a media presentation in Lagos, Omotosho said the way audiences consume television has changed dramatically, with viewers now using smart TVs, tablets, mobile phones and other connected devices.
According to her, three major developments are shaping the business: global collaboration, changing viewing habits, and the need to simplify packages.
Omotosho disclosed that MultiChoice is now part of a global organisation, which gives it access to skills, content, technology and expertise from across the group. She said the partnership will strengthen its platforms and improve service delivery.
She admitted that some customers feel the company has not made enough changes in recent years and that price increases have not matched value, adding that the new strategy is designed to address those concerns.
Four Packages Each for DStv and GOtv
Under the new structure, DStv will now have four packages: Starter, Select, Sports and Premium, while GOtv will have Easy, Starter, Select and Sports.

The CEO explained that the company currently has too many packages, which confuses customers, and the new structure is built on three priorities: simplicity, value for money and choice.
She stated that Starter is DStv’s entry-level package offering local content and selected sports, including Match of the Week, while higher packages offer broader content. Customers can start from an entry level and upgrade as their needs change.
Omotosho also hinted at an affordable price point starting from as little as ₦6,000 and a promotional offer for sales partners at ₦15,000, with more details to be confirmed officially.
Also speaking, Senior Vice President, Communication, Tope Osunkeye, said new channels will be introduced by November 5, including a SuperSport package at a more accessible price, consolidation of M-Net Movies 1 and 2 into M-Net Movies Plus, and the launch of M-Net Stars channel.
He said the African Magic offering will be strengthened with more local, indigenous, children’s and music content, while content from Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa and France will be shared across the CANAL+ ecosystem.
He noted that programmes like Big Brother Naija will be made available to audiences in other African countries.
On Showmax and Flexible Sports Subscription
Responding to questions, the management said the shutdown of Showmax was a strategic decision due to sustainability issues. They assured that an audit is ongoing to launch a better streaming platform that will replace Showmax and improve on DStv Stream.
On flexible sports subscriptions, they said it is being considered but requires a sustainable business model.
The company said the new era is about delivering better value, more choice and clearer options for subscribers.
