Tony Elumelu joins Seplat Energy board as Non-ED

Seplat Energy Plc has appointed Tony O. Elumelu as a Non-Executive Director, following Olivier Cleret De Langavant’s resignation after Etablissements Maurel et Prom SA’s (M&P) divested its 20.07% stake in the company.

Elumelu, a visionary entrepreneur and philanthropist, brings decades of experience building businesses across Africa in key sectors like energy, finance, and agribusiness.

He founded Heirs Holdings and the Tony Elumelu Foundation, which has nurtured thousands of African entrepreneurs. Elumelu currently chairs UBA Group, Transcorp Plc, and Heirs Holdings, driving growth and innovation. He’s a proponent of “Africapitalism”, advocating for private sector-led sustainable development in Africa.

Elumelu’s track record includes turning around Standard Trust Bank (now part of UBA) and leading UBA’s expansion into a pan-African bank with presence in 20 countries.

His appointment is expected to boost Seplat Energy’s strategic direction, leveraging his expertise in driving business growth and economic development.

Through the Tony Elumelu Foundation, he’s committed $100 million to creating 10,000 African entrepreneurs over ten years. Elumelu serves on global platforms like the UN Sustainable Energy for All Global Advisory Board and Nigeria’s Agricultural Transformation Implementation Council, solidifying his influence in shaping Africa’s economic landscape.
